Different night, different hero for the No. 4 Univerity of Minnesota Duluth women's hockey team.
The Bulldogs continued to spread their offense around Friday night in their 2-1 win over No. 9/10 Bemidji State Univerisity as redshirt junior Katerina Mrázová netted both goals for UMD. With the win, the Bulldogs stay unbeaten at AMSOIL Arena this season with a 4-0-1 record and improve to 2-2-1 against teams ranked in the top-10.
Despite dominating BSU with a 17-9 shots on goal advantage in the first period, UMD finally took the lead 1:13 into the second period on the first of Mrázová's two goals. The Beavers equalized midway through the stanza on a score from Madison Hutchinson, however, and after two periods of play, UMD's 31-15 shots on goal advantage had only translated to a 1-1 tie against BSU netminder Brittini Mowat.
Mrázová scored the game-winning goal 4:08 into the third period, her third tally of the season off a give and go from
Lara Stalder that began with a pass from
Ashleigh Brykaliuk at the BSU blueline. Both Brykaliuk and Stalder had a team-high five shots on Mowat in the contest.
Overall, UMD outshot BSU 41-21 on the night. Mowat made 39 saves for the Beavers, who fall to 4-3-0 overall and 2-3-0 in Western Collegiate Hockey Association action. Bulldog sophomore goaltender
