Game Recap: Women's Hockey |

No. 6 BULLDOGS BLANK MINNESOTA STATE 4-0 TO OPEN WCHA PLAY

The University of Minnesota Duluth women's hockey team scored four goals against Minnesota State University, Mankato Friday night, and not one was netted by the Bulldogs current Western Collegiate Hockey Association's Offensive Player of the Week.

UMD spread its offense around in its 4-0 league win over the Mavericks at AMSOIL Arena, and with the triumph, the Bulldogs extended their current unbeaten streak to three-games strong and 2-0-1, 1-0-0.  Three players recorded two points, including rookie defenseman Jayln Elmes (1g, 1a), junior forward Katerina Mrázovå (1g, 1a) and senior forward Lara Stalder (2a).

Junior blueliner Jessica Healey scored the first of the Bulldogs three power goals to give UMD a 1-0 lead at 6:07 of the first period.  That score would remain until the Bulldogs put together a run of three unanswered goals to start the third period.  Senior forward Katherine McGovern started the scoring spree at 2:52, followed by Mrázovå's goal three and a half minutes later.  Elmes struck on the power play for her first UMD career goal a little over a minute later, cementing the Bulldogs 4-0 win.

In addition to UMD's 3-of-5 power play performance and 31-22 shot on goal advantage, the Bulldogs penalty kill held MSU scoreless in five attempts.  Sophmore goaltender Maddie Rooney made 22 stops en route to her third career shutout.

UMD and the Mavericks (2-1-0, 0-1-0) will finish up the series tomorrow afternoon at 4:00 p.m. at AMSOIL.
