The University of Minnesota Duluth returned from a 14-day layoff and turned in a second-place finish at the 13-team Lewis University Conference Crossover meet Saturday morning in Romeoville, Ill.
Grand Valley State University, which was ranked second in this week's United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association NCAA Division II Poll, captured the team title with 44 points while No. 6 UMD was 21 points back. The Bulldogs are followed by No. 8 University of Southern Indiana (67 points), No. 11 Northern Michigan University (81 pts.) and host Lewis (154 pts.), which received votes in the latest USTFCCCA Poll.

Emi Trost won her second race of the 2016 season, completing the 163-runner, 6K-event in 21:00.6 and senior
Breanna Colbenson took third overall with a time of 21:07.26 The next five Bulldogs were juniors
Abby Moore (16th place; 22:29.34) and
Amber Seidenkranz (18th; 22:34.23), freshmen
Melissa Drenckhahn (27th; 22:51.04) and Meaghan Borrowski (40th; 23:16.66) and senior
Caitlan Richard (47th; 23:30.42)
The Bulldogs are now off until Oct. 22 when they'll pay a visit to Sioux Falls, S.D. to defend their Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference title.
"I like where we are now," said UMD head coach
Joanna Warmington. "I think we are progressing in the right direction and have built up some nice momentum heading into the conference championships."
