UMD DROPS 69-55 NON-CONFERENCE BOUT TO NORTHERN MICHIGAN

The University of Minnesota Duluth fell to Northern Michigan University by a score of 69-55, moving to 0-2 on the young season.

UMD struggled from the field, shooting just 20-65 (30.8%) against NMU (4-1) and 4-17 (23.5%) from three-point range. In comparison, the Wildcats shot 52.3 percent on 23-44 shooting. Northern Michigan held the advantage in nearly every major offensive category including outscoring UMD in the paint 30-14. The Bulldogs have yet to outscore an opponent in a quarter this year through two games. 

Senior forward Taylor Meyer kept the game close after the first quarter by knocking down a jump shot as time expired to tie the game at 15. In the first half, the Wildcats got a boost from their bench, who outscored the Bulldogs bench 14-4. Meyer led all players with 11 points in the first half, shooting 4-7 from the floor, but would go on to score just three points in the second half. The Bulldogs only 27.1 percent from the field and did not convert from beyond the arc, going 0-4. The team combined for just 2-11 shooting in the second quarter. During the fourth quarter, the lead got up to as high as 17 points for Northern Michigan.

Rookie forward Josie Buckley scored five points, grabbed three boards, an assist and added a pair of steals in her first career start for UMD. Sophomore guard Sammy Kozlowski was the only other Bulldog to score in double-digits (11) tonight. Kozlowski was responsible for two of the four three-pointers tonight for UMD.

The Bulldogs will look to get their first win of the season Wednesday (Nov. 23) against Lake Superior State University Lakers (1-4). Lake Superior State is averaging 72 points per game through its first five games this season.
