With a 65-57 victory over Lake Superior State University, the University of Minnesota Duluth garnered its first win of the 2016 campaign.
Backed by a game-high 18 points from sophomore guard
Sammy Kozlowski, the Bulldogs (1-2) scored a season-high 65 points to defeat the Lakers (1-5). UMD held LSS to a season-low 57 points.
Kozlowski set a career-high with 18 points on 5-11 shooting and by going perfect at the line (7-7). Senior guard Mackenzie Edwards led the way for the Lakers, scoring 13 points on 5-13 shooting and going 3-5 from beyond the arc.
After trailing 32-29 at half, the Bulldogs outperformed the Lakers by outscoring them 36-25 in the final 20 minutes.
The Bulldogs connected on 24 of 63 from the field, good for a 38.1 field goal percentage. UMD put out an impressive defensive effort, forcing 18 Laker turnovers while picking up 11 steals, including three a piece from Kozlowski and senior forward
Kenzie Kane. Kane also added eight points and seven assists in the victory.
UMD will finish off its three game road trip against St. Cloud State Saturday (Nov. 26) with tip-off at 2p.m.
