The University of Minnesota Duluth captured its first home win and Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference win of the season with an 82-73 victory over Bemidji State University.
The Bulldogs (2-3; 1-1 NSIC) were able to use the three-ball by shooting a season-high 10 three-point field goals to beat the Beavers (3-2; 0-1 NSIC) Friday night in Romano Gymnasium.
After scoring only two points in the first 4:40, the Bulldogs turned up the heat and went on a 16-7 run to close up the first quarter with an 18-17 lead. The Bulldogs found their stride in the first half, using the three-ball to score a season-high 43 first half points. UMD shot a collective 7-13 from beyond the arc, including a perfect 3-3 from freshman forward Josie Buckley. Buckley scored 11 points on 4-5 shooting in just six minutes of work.
Senior forward Taylor Meyer led the Bulldogs in scoring with 18 points on 8-15 shooting. Sophomore guard Sammy Kozlowski finished close behind with 17 points of her own on 5-10 shooting and going perfect a perfect 6-6 at the free-throw line. UMD struggled at the line in the first three-quarters, making a mere 3-7 of its attempts, before going 11-14 in the final 10 minutes.
The Bulldogs will face the Minnesota Crookston Golden Eagles (0-5; 0-1 NSIC) Saturday night (Dec. 3) with tip-off coming at 4 p.m.
