The University of Minnesota Duluth women's hockey team stepped back into Western Collegiate Hockey Association action seamlessly Friday night in St. Cloud, Minn.
As the country's No. 4 team, the Bulldogs blanked St. Cloud State University 3-0 to extend their current winning streak to three games and remain unbeaten in 10-of-11 games played since Oct. 21.
A scoreless first period gave way to a two-goal second period, led by
Ashleigh Brykaliuk's tenth goal of the season at 6:16.  Brykaliuk's tally, with assists credited to
Lara Stalder and
Sidney Morin, kept the senior forward's current season-best scoring streak intact. Â The Brandon, Manitoba native has now tied her second-longest career scoring streak of eight games on five goals and six assists for 11 points.
Maria Lindh put the Bulldogs up 2-0 on a one-time blast from the middle of the slot, burying a
Sydney Brodt feed at 9:59 of the second period.  Late in the third period, senior forward
Demi Crossman skated in on the empty net with 52 seconds remaining to tack on to UMD's lead and ice the contest at 3-0.
Sophomore goaltender
Maddie Rooney earned her second shutout of the season and the fourth of her young career, turning away all 15 SCSU shots she faced. Â Janine Alder had 19 saves for the Huskies, who fall to 5-11-1 overall and 4-8-1 in the WCHA.Â
The Bulldogs (11-3-3, 8-3-2) will attempt their second series sweep in as many weeks when they face SCSU tomorrow at 3:07 p.m.
