In her fourth, and final, appearance at the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Indoor Pentathlon Championships, University of Minnesota Duluth All-American
Chanel Miller placed third out of 18 competitors Sunday at Minnesota State University's Myers Field House.
Miller, the 2013 NSIC pentathlon champion and 2014 runnerup who was sidelined with an injury last winter, accumulated 3,529 points to trail only Augustana University's Olivia Montez Brown (3,641 pts) and the University of Mary's Molly McDonald (3,549). Miller, a senior team captain from Burnsville, Minn., took second in the shot put (35'-03.75"), fourth in the 60-meter hurdles (9.07), fifth in the high jump (5'-01.25") and the 800-meter run (2:27.63) and sixth in the long jump (17'-04.75").
A pair of UMD sophomores --
Alexandra Collins (2,737 pts.) and
Avery Potthoff (2,417 pts.) -- finished 15th and 17th, respectively, at Sunday's meet.
With Miller's third-place performance, UMD will enter the NSIC Indoor Track and Field Championships (in Mankato on Feb. 26-27) with six team points in its coffers. UMD will tune up for that event this Saturday by competing in the University of Minnesota's Parents Day Invitational.
