The University of Minnesota Duluth men's and women's track and field teams compiled a number of impressive performances on Wednesday at the University of St. Thomas Joe Sweeney Invitational in St. Paul, Minn. in one of two last meets before the Bulldogs host the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Championships one week from Thursday.

Kate Fitzgerald was one of a number of women who found the top of the podium, running to a season best and NCAA Division II 97th fastest time of 24.64 in the 200 meters. Sophomore Lillian Wanzek won the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 14.88, and Avary Fitzpatrick had a second place effort in the 400 meters with her time of 57.80.

Emily Beaham placed third in the 400m hurdles with a personal best and new DII 69th fastest time of 1:02.41, while senior Madeline Verkerke finished second in the 800 meters with a season best and NCAA DII 83rd fastest time of 2:12.71. Junior Rachel Ulrich placed third in the same race with a season-best run of 2:13.71. T

On the field side, junior Lauren DuBois was second in the high jump with a jump of 1.53m, while freshman Halle Theis took first place in the javelin throw with a personal best toss of 34.13m. UMD actually went 1-2-3 in the event – Same Azure placed second (33.79m) and Graycee Roubinek (32.72m) rounded out the top-three.

Both the men's and women's 4x100m relays won the even, both ran to season best times and both entered the top-100 in DII. The women had a time of 47.49, the 95th fastest in the NCAA DII, turned in by Emily Anderson, Fitzpatrick, Theis and Fitzgerald. The men, led by Cole Ohnstad, Brock Unger, Brayden Brakke and Brady Johnson won in a season-fastest time of 41.32, good enough for the 81st fastest time nationally. The women's 4x400m placed second with a time of 3:56.80 – run by Fitzpatrick, Emily Beaham, Madi Wodele and Fitzgerald.

On the track for the men, freshman Nolan Bien placed second in the 110m hurdles with a time of 15.03, while junior Brakke topped the podium with a 21.81 run in the 200 meters.

Junior Jaden Johnson earned a first place finish in the men's high jump with his season-best jump of 1.96m.

UMD will put the wrap on the regular season Friday when it competes at the Meet on the Unsaintly in St. Paul, Minn.
