MARY PULLS AWAY LATE TO HOLD OFF UMD IN HIGH OCTANE SECOND HALF

The University of Minnesota Duluth rallied in the third quarter to make a comeback effort in the high-scoring second half, but the University of Mary proved too much in the game's final frame, downing the Bulldogs 81-75 in the penultimate Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference regular season contest of 2015-16.

UMD (6-18, 6-15 NSIC) outscored Mary 20-14 in the third, turning a 43-35 halftime deficit into a one-score game. Sophomore forward Anna Monke knocked down a jumper with 9:30 remaining to knot the game at 57-all, but U-Mary (14-15, 8-13 NSIC) scored the game's next seven points and 16-of-20 points to pull away, leading by as much as 12 in the fourth quarter before the Bulldogs scraped back into the game falling by the final six-point margin. The Marauders shot 50.0 percent for the game, including 8-of-17 from three point range. UMD shot 40.3 percent, hitting five threes and actually out-rebounded U-Mary 38-31 overall including grabbing 12 boards on their offensive end but committed too many turnovers (19) on the night which resulted in 28 points for the Marauders.

First-year guard Sammy Kozlowski scored 17 points on 7-of-19 shooting, adding four assists and three steals on the night for UMD. Junior center Allyson Harris scored 13, grabbed five boards, and blocked three shots on the night. Monke would also reach double digits with 12 points and a game-high six rebounds. The Bulldogs had six players with at least eight points on the night, but the Marauders had three players each score 21-plus points, led by Hannah Larson, who also grabbed six boards while knocking back six blocks against UMD. Dani Williams finished 4-for-4 from three-point range and matched Brittney Dietz with 21 points each for U-Mary.

The Bulldogs will be back in action on Saturday night for the regular season finale as the team's NSIC Tournament fate is yet to be officially determined. UMD takes on Minot State University on the road. Opening tip is set for 6:00 p.m. in Minot, North Dakota.
