Game Recap: Men's Hockey |

BULLDOGS TAKE A BITE OUT OF THE THIRD-RANKED HUSKIES TO COMPLETE WEEKEND SWEEP

Big ice is nice for the University of Minnesota Duluth.

In the last 10 games they've  played on an Olympic-sized ice sheet the Bulldogs are 10-1-0, including a perfect 7-0-0 mark against Top 15 nationally-ranked clubs. The latest of those was No. 3 St. Cloud State, which UMD defeated 2-1 Saturday night on its way to a National Collegiate Hockey Conference series sweep.

UMD (13-14-5 overall; 9-10-3-1 NCHC), which toppled the hostHuskies 4-1 on Friday, got all the scoring it would need in the second period. Junior center Dominic Toninato broke a scoreless deadlock with his 12th goal of the season on blast from the high slot at the 8:21 mark. Then, with 4:16 to go before intermission, junior defenseman Willie Raskob teed up a shot from the right point that was redirected in by Karson Kuhlman. For the sophomore right winger, it was his third goal and fourth point of the weekend. A little over two minutes later, St. Cloud State's Patrick Russell struck on the power play to cut the deficit to 2-1, ending the Bulldogs' streak of consecutive penalty kills at 18.

Sophomore goaltender Kasimir Kaskisuo, who made a career-high 49 saves in the series opener, continued to be a thorn in St. Cloud State's side, stopping 25 of 26 shots and holding the high-Huskies to well under the 4.35 goals per game average it entered the weekend with.

"It's not just weekend -- Kasimir has been playing real well for the last month to month and a half," said head coach Scott Sandelin, whose Bulldogs have posted five sweeps this season. "It's just nice to see him get rewarded with some wins."

UMD will close out the 2015-16 regular season next Friday and Saturday against a club its tied with for the fourth, and final NCHC home playoff spot -- Miami University.
