University of Minnesota Duluth sophomore goaltender
Kasimir Kaskisuo was chosen the American Sports Network (ASN) Player of the Week after backstopping the Bulldogs to a pair of road triumphs over third-ranked St. Cloud State University over the weekend.
The Vantaa, Finland, product made a career-high 49 saves -- including 21 in the third period -- Friday in helping preserve a 4-1 victory and then was credited with 25 saves the following evening as he and the Bulldogs prevailed 2-1 to complete the National Collegiate Hockey Conference series sweep. Kaskisuo, a 2014-15 NCHC All-Rookie Team pick, turned aside 74 of 76 shots over the weekend allowed just one even-strength goal against the nation's second highest scoring club (the Huskies entered the series averaging 4.37 goals per night and sporting the best shot percentage -- .130 -- in the NCAA I ranks).
Kaskisuo, who has started 43 of the last four games, currently ranks eighth among all NCAA I puckstoppers in goals against average (1.94) and is tied for ninth in shut outs (four, one shy of the school-single season record).
