The University of Minnesota Duluth equaled a school record with two shorthanded goals and tacked on a power play goal en route to a 3-1 National Collegiate Hockey Conference playoff series-clinching victory over the visiting RedHawks. The Bulldogs advanced to  NCHC Frozen Faceoff at the Target Center in Minneapolis, where they'll face the University of North Dakota next Friday riding in a semfinal round bout riding a six-game winning streak.

After scoring three unanswered goals while rallying for a 4-3 win Friday, the No. 20 Bulldogs picked up right where they left off by striking 91 seconds in on a junior left winger Kyle Osterberg's shortie off a breakaway. Defenseman Andy Welinski, who was one of eight Bulldog seniors making their final AMSOIL Arena appearance ever, put the Bulldogs up 2-0 at 16:51 of the first with a one-timer from top of the left faceoff circle. That power play goal was the two-time All-NCHC second team honoree's seventh of the season and second in as many nights.

Midway through the second period and with Miami a man up, senior center Tony Cameranesi deeked RedHawk goalie Jay Williams with a backhand-forehand move to extend the Bulldog lead to 3-0 and his personal scoring streak to six games. It remained that way until 2:48 to go in regulation when Miami left winger Kevin Morris spoiled sophomore goaltender Kasimir Kaskisou's bid for a school-record sixth shutout by finishing off a two-on-one.

"It feels awesome and I'm really happy for our guys," said Sandelin, whose Bulldogs went 4-0-0 against Miami the past two weekends and 5-1-0 this winter. "Neither team had a ton of shots (19-16 in favor of the Bulldogs), but our special teams came through big time."

Miami (15-18-3 overall) ranks second nationally in penalty kill efficiency, but of the 12 power play goals they've allowed in 36 games this season, four have been to the Bulldogs (17-14-5).
