University of Minnesota Duluth assistant athletic director,
Abbey Strong, has been appointed to a four-year term on the NCAA Division I Women's Ice Hockey Committee.
Â
Strong will begin her tenure immediately and will serve on a committee that oversees, among other things, the selection, seeding and bracketing for the annual NCAA Women's Ice Hockey Championship.
Â
"This is a tremendous opportunity for me both personally and professionally" said Strong, a four-year NCAA I hockey letterwinner at the University of North Dakota and the University of Findlay. "I have a strong passion for women's hockey and am excited to be joining a group that has the same desire to see the game continue to grow."
Â
After taking over as the director of compliance at UMD in December of 2011, Strong was promoted to assistant athletic director for compliance and camps two years later. Among her duties, the Houghton, Mich., native oversees all aspects of athletic compliance, including oversight over initial eligibility, financial aid, recruiting, transfers and continuing eligibility. She also serves on the UMD athletic department's senior staff and works directly with athletic director
Josh Berlo in the administration of women's hockey.Â
Â
"Abbey's experience as a women's hockey student-athlete and athletic administrator working closely with the sport make her an excellent committee member," said Berlo. Â "Her insights and knowledge of the game will be a great perspective for supporting and growing the sport. Her selection is a credit to her personally as well as UMD athletics and Bulldog women's hockey."
