It appears senior linemates
Ashleigh Brykaliuk and
Lara Stalder are ready to pick up where the scoring duo left off seven months ago.
Brykaliuk and Stalder each netted two goals in the University of Minnesota Duluth women's hockey 4-1 exhibition win over the Whitecaps at AMSOIL Arena late Saturday afternoon.
Both squads traded goals in the first period, with Brykaliuk opening the scoring at 7:14 with a power play tally. Â The Whitecaps equalized at 15:32 with their own extra skater, shrugging off a Bulldog shell game in the opening stanza that had UMD up 11-5 in shots on goal.
The Bulldogs offensively overwhelmed the Whitecaps in the second period. Â Brykaliuk got the scoring started at 1:28, followed by Stalder power play goal 37 seconds later. Â Stalder struck again off an assist from freshman
Jalyn Elmes at the 9:22 mark, and UMD never looked back with a 4-1 lead after the first 40 minutes of play.
In all, three players notched multiple point nights, led by Stalder with two goals and two assists, Brykaliuk with two goals and an assist and defenseman
Sidney Morin, who dished out two assists. Â
Sophmore goaltender
Maddie Rooney made 33 saves in the contest, managing a Whitecap team that outshot UMD 34-33 in the game. Â The Bulldogs were 2-of-8 on the power play while holding the Whitecaps to just a 1-of-8 effort with an extra skater.
UMD will open up regular season play next weekend when it welcomes No. 3 Boston College to AMSOIL. Â Friday night's game will get underway at 7:07 p.m.
