BULLDOGS HOST PAIR OF NON-CONFERENCE MATCHES BEFORE OPENING NSIC CAMPAIGN

The University of Minnesota Duluth will look to carry their momentum from last weekend's shutout victory as it begins its 2016 home campaign this weekend with a Friday evening match against Michigan Tech University. UMD will return to Malosky Stadium to host Northern Michigan University on Sunday afternoon. The Bulldogs open their NSIC schedule with a Tuesday night match against St. Cloud State University in St. Cloud, Minn.

Michigan Tech comes off a split last weekend – being shut out by No. 13 Winona State by a score of 2-0 before grabbing a shut out themselves, defeating St. Cloud State 1-0 … UMD will be the third of four straight NSIC teams Michigan Tech faces as they travel to Bemidji State on Sunday … freshman forward Alex Vasile has scored the Huskies' lone goal on the season … Michigan Tech was picked to finish fifth in the GLIAC Preseason Coaches' Poll … head coach Michelle Jacob, the programs only coach, holds an impressive career record of 65-40-8 (.611) over seven seasons … senior forward Jacqueline Mielke returns for her final season, coming off a 10 goal season in which she was named to the Daktronics All-Midwest Region First Team and All-GLIAC second team … MTU was 4-5-2 on the road last season … this is the third meeting between UMD and Michigan Tech with the Huskies winning the previous two … kickoff is set for 6:00 p.m. on Friday.

Northern Michigan is also in the middle of a four game stretch against NSIC teams … started off hot with a 11-0 victory over Finlandia, but has dropped the last two contests to St. Cloud State and Winona State … senior midfielder Paula Hafner was named the GLIAC Player of the Year in 2014 after leading the conference with 14 goals scored … senior goalkeeper Alexandra Simmons anchors the Wildcats in net after making appearing in 16 of 17 games last season … head coach Matt Granstrand is in his 14th year of coaching, sporting a record of 108-93-19 (.534) … NMU was 3-7 on the road last season and have yet to play away from home in 2016 … this will be the 20th meeting between the two teams, UMD holds a 13-4-3 edge … game time is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. on Sunday.

St. Cloud State is familiar with the Bulldogs' weekend opponents, as they defeated Northern Michigan before falling to Michigan Tech last weekend … sophomore forward Maria Kass comes off a stellar 2015 season – recording 8 goals and two assists while on her way to earning All-NSIC Second Team honors … St. Cloud State has a tough task this weekend as they take on the top rated team in the country, Grand Valley State, on Friday afternoon … head coach Gretta Arveson is in her third season as the Huskies head coach, holding an overall record of 16-18-4 (.474) … St. Cloud State was 3-4-1 away from home last season … the Bulldogs and Huskies will kickoff at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
