The University of Minnesota Duluth ushered in 2017 Saturday at the University of Minnesota Open in Minneapolis, Minn., and among the highlights were a handful of Top 5 finishes.
Among those was senior
Brian Lee, who placed second in the men's weight throw with an NCAA Division II-qualifying toss of 57'-03.00". That effort also currently ranks first in the Northern Sun Intercolelgiate Conference. Sophomore
Chris Timm (14'-00.75" in the pole vault), junior
Clinton Treichel (49'-09.00" in the shot put -- invitational division) and senior
Boston Braack (1:25.63 in the 600-meter run) all took fourth in their respective events while
Darrick Jackson (1:26.82) finished 1.19 seconds and one spot back of Braack in the 600-meter run.
In the men's shot put open event, freshman
Kenny Kirkvold, a UMD football lineman, came in first with a toss of 45'-09.75". Carlson and Jackson joined A.J. Belchak and senior
Ben Hanson in the 4 x 400 relay where they came in fourth.
Up next for the Bulldogs is the University of Wisconsin-Superior's Twin Ports Invitational this Saturday (Jan. 21).
