UMD UNABLE TO SLOW DOWN BEMIDJI STATE OFFENSE IN 86-78 DEFEAT

Despite the first collegiate double-double from sophomore forward Sean Burns, the University of Minnesota Duluth dropped a Saturday evening Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference matchup with Bemidji State University.

Burns connected on 8-of-9 from the field for 17 points while adding 10 rebounds -- both UMD-highs. A pair of freshmen -- Logan Rohrscheib (14) and Luke Harris (13) also scored double-digit points, each knocking down three shots from long range.

The Bulldogs shot 42.3 percent from the field, but could not keep pace with the surging Beavers in the second half. BSU shot 58.3 percent as a team -- the highest output from a UMD opponent this season. The Bulldogs outscored Bemidji State 39-31 in bench production, while the Beavers held a 42-30 advantage in the paint.

UMD trailed for a majority of the opening half, but took a one point lead into halftime following a rare four-point play by Rohrscheib with just 18 seconds remaining.

The teams battled back-and-forth after the break, trading leads 12 times in as many minutes to begin the half. BSU's Jai'vionne Green connected on a jumper with 8:39 to play to capture a two point lead, one that the Beavers would hold onto for the remainder of the game. UMD cut the deficit to 78-74 with just over two minutes to play, but a quick 5-0 response by Bemidji State ensured the victory.

UMD will remain on the road to take on St. Cloud State University on Tuesday at 8 p.m.
