NO. 5/6 BULLDOGS OUTSHOOT NO. 7 OHIO STATE IN 2-0 LOSS

For a fifth-straight game, the University of Minnesota Duluth women's hockey team outshot its opponent, but Friday night at OSU Ice Rink, only Ohio State University found its way on to the scoreboard.

The No. 5/6 Bulldogs were shutout by the No. 7 Buckeyes and their goaltender Kassidy Sauve 2-0 in their first Western Collegiate Hockey Association action of the season. The Bulldogs dominated OSU, shelling the Buckeyes 32-18, but OSU held the nation's second best power play scoreless in five attempts.

OSU's first goal came at 15:00 of the first period on the power play,  The puck bounced off the boards and inadvertently hit the back of Bulldog goaltender Jessica Convery's skate for a goal that would be credited to Maddy Field.

After withstanding UMD's offense, the Buckeyes doubled their lead at the 16:02 mark of the third period.  Convery came out to collect the puck, but it took a OSU bounce in traffic and landed on the stick of Buckeye Julianna Iafallo.

Convery had 16 saves in the contest, while Sauve had 35.  With the win, OSU snaps UMD's 11-game unbeaten streak in Columbus, Ohio.  UMD falls to 2-3 overall and 0-1 in the WCHA, while the Buckeyes improve to 4-0-1 overall and 2-0-1 in the WCHA.

The Bulldogs and Buckeyes will wrap up the series tomorrow at 2 p.m. CST.
