Sophomore guard
Logan Rohrscheib dropped in a season-high 23 points tonight but it wasn't enough as the University of Minnesota Duluth fell 98-90 in an Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference shootout to the University of Minnesota Crookston. Rohrscheib went 6-of-12 from the field including five three pointers and 6-of-6 at the free throw line.
However, the Bulldogs were daggered by the Golden Eagles and their ability to drain the three-ball and do so effectively. UMC made 14 shots from behind the arc and 60 percent of their shots from long distance. UMD has been good from the charity stripe and it showed once again tonight. The Bulldogs converted 27-of-29 from the line. UMC almost matched them, going 24-for-27.
The 188 points was the most points scored in a game this season and the most since Dec. 19, 2015 when UMD beat St. Cloud State University 100-92.
The Bulldogs got out to an early 13-6 lead on a lay in by junior guard
Mamadou Ngom. UMD expanded the lead to 31-22, its biggest of the night, with eight minutes to go in the half. The Golden Eagles tied at the contest at 31 with three straight three-pointers. UMD scored only four points during a four-minute span which pushed Minnesota Crookston in front 41-35. UMC would go into the half up 52-47.
UMD was in a game of catch up in the second half. Every time the Bulldogs would inch closer to tying the game, the Eagles would bury a few buckets and a shot from long range. The Bulldogs were trading two's for three's and the lead grew more out of hand. UMC's Cleary Harrison dropped a three of his own with 5:08 remaining to put his team up by 18 at 85-67. Sophomore guard
Trevor Entwisle nailed a shot from downtown to cut it to 10 with two minutes left but the deficit was too much to overcome.
Sophomore
Brandon Myer tallied 18 points and nine boards, leaving him one shy of the Bulldogs' first double-double of the season. Junior forward
Sean Burns played well off the bench. In 22 minutes of work, Burns had 13 points and eight rebounds. Ngom made his first start as a Bulldog and led the team in field goal percentage.
The Bulldogs will make their home debut this Friday versus Southwest Minnesota State. That home tilt will tip off at 8:00 p.m.
