The University of Minnesota Duluth was unable to stop Concordia University-St. Paul's win streak Saturday afternoon in a 70-59 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference bout. The Golden Bears have now won 10 games in a row after starting their season 7-7.
After shooting 15-of-28 (53.6 percent) in the first half for 32 points, UMD went just 9-of-31 (29.0 percent) in the second half for 27 points, against CSP (17-7; 13-5 NSIC).
In a close fought first half, with a score of 34-32, the Golden Bears would capitalize on turnovers and pound the paint in the second half to bury the Bulldogs. With a slight 43-42 lead at 5:50 in the third quarter, CSP ripped off a 13-0 run over the next 7:43 to take a sizeable lead. The Bulldogs weren't able to recover. Senior center Caitlyn Russell led all players with 24 points on 10-of-18 shooting, eight rebounds, and four blocks. Russell would score 18 of her 24 points in the second half. Sophomore guard Anna Schmitt added 19 points on 8-of-13 shooting and six boards of her own for CSP. The starting five would be responsible for every single point for the Golden Bears.
Sophomore guard
Sammy Kozlowski put up a team-high 19 points on 8-of-14 shooting, six assists, and three steals. After not scoring at all in the first half, senior forward
Taylor Meyer would connect on three three-pointers in the second half to finish with nine points and a team-high seven rebounds.
The Bulldogs will look to bounce back against the Minot State University Beavers (3-21; 1-17 NSIC) on Friday (Feb. 10) at 6 p.m.
