Alex Iafallo is now All-American
Alex Iafallo.
The University of Minnesota Duluth senior left winger earned the moniker today when he was named to the American Hockey Coaches Association/CCM All-America First Team (West). He's the first Bulldog to be so honored since senior center Jack Connolly (first team) and sophomore right winger J.T. Brown (second team) both landed that citation.
Iafallo reigned as the National Collegiate Hockey Conference's scoring champion (a program first), tops the 2016-17 Bulldogs in overall points (50 -- with a nation-high 15 of those coming in the month of March), goals (20) and assists (30). He currently owns a career-high 14-point scoring streak, which he will take into Saturday night's NCAA Frozen Four title clash with the University of Denver. Named the Most Valuable Player at the 2017 NCHC Frozen Faceoff, Iafallo is the first Bulldog in five years to reach the 50-point plateau in five years and two month ago became the 57th member of UMD's 100-point club. In 151 lifetime outings, the Eden, N.Y., product and 2016-17 All-NCHC first team selection has generated 47 goals and 73 assists for 120 points.
In its 56 years as a member of the NCAA I ranks, UMD has produced 26 All-Americans, earning that honor nine times in the past 14 seasons.
