University of Minnesota Duluth junior-captain
Logan Rubeck placed ninth among 15 competitors at the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Outdoor Decathlon Championships, which wrapped up Wednesday afternoon in Mankato, Minn. Bulldog freshman
Dan Clark, meanwhile, took 14th in his league outdoor decathlon debut.
Rubeck, who held down the No. 7 spot after the opening day of the two-day event, amassed 5,713 points -- an 821 point increase from two years ago when he wound up 12th at the NSIC meet. The Eau Claire, Wis., native placed third in both 110-meter hurdles (15.40) and the javelin throw (151'-10") and was sixth in the 400-meter dash (51.86) and the pole vault (12'-5.50"). He did not, however, pick up any points in the discus throw, which most likely kept him out of a top eight finish and points for the Bulldogs at the upcoming NSIC Outdoor Track and Field Championships (May 12-13 in St. Paul, Minn.).
"Logan was a true competitor today the way he continued on after not achieving a mark in the discus and subsequently losing close to 500 points in that event," said UMD head coach
Paul Nisius. "Despite earning points in nine of 10 decathlon events, he still only finished 101 points out of eighth place and 260 out of seventh."
Clark totaled 5,062 points with his top finish coming in the shot put (2nd; 37'-7.25").
