DRAGONS HAND BULLDOGS FIRST HOME LOSS OF SEASON

Box Score The University of Minnesota Duluth should have a lot to take away from its first home loss of the season at the hands of Minnesota State University-Moorhead.

The Bulldogs (11-5 overall; 8-4 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference) were outplayed in nearly every aspect of the game on both ends of the court on Friday night. UMD finished with a season-low in points (45) and field-goals made (16). The 45 points are the least its scored in a game 52 games ago on Jan. 23, 2016 against the University of Mary (54-44). The Dragons (14-3; 11-2 NSIC) limited the Bulldogs to a mere 3-for-15 (20 percent) three-pointers while not allowing a single one to be knocked down in the second half (0-for-6). The struggles began in the first quarter when UMD turned the ball over six times -- it would go on to finish with only four more over the next 30 minutes of play. The Bulldogs were pounded down low, resulting in being outscored 42-16 in the paint. Coming into the match-up, MSUM ranked second in the nation with 42.4 rebounds per game, and 19th in total defensive rebounds - and it showed tonight. The Bulldogs were out-rebounded 50-31, marking just their fourth time this season being outdone on the boards.

Sophomore forward Katie Stark led all scorers tying her career best 16 points on 6-for-14 shooting (42.8 percent). Freshman guard Chelsea Mason played a career-high 16 minutes while collecting a career-high assists (two), and would notch both her first rebound and her first steal of her career.

UMD will stay put in Romano Gymnasium for their next NSIC bout against No. 22 Northern State on Saturday (Jan. 20) at 4 p.m. The Wolves will prove to be another tough test as they rank first in all of Div-II women's basketball by out-rebounding teams on average 13.4 boards per game.
