Both the University of Minnesota Duluth women's hockey team and Bemidji State University registered 28 shots on net Friday afternoon, but in the end, it was only the Bulldogs offense that mattered.

UMD broke the Beavers with three third period goals to pick up its first Western Collegiate Hockey Association win of the season, a 6-1 offensive showcase for the Bulldogs.  Sophomore Naomi Rogge led the way with two goals and an assist for a game-high three points, but a total of six UMD players, including Rogge, turned in multiple-point performances.

One of those multiple point performers was junior defenseman Jalyn Elmes, who opened the scoring just two minutes into the game with a shot from the point for her first goal of the season.  Rookie forward Anneke Linser, who had assisted the Elmes tally, picked one of of her own with a tip 1:01 later, redirecting another shot from the opposite point from Lizi Norton for the early 2-0 UMD lead.

Bemidji attempted to make it a game with a power play goal at the 3:29 mark, capping off a flurry of three goals over a 1:29 span by both teams, but the Bulldogs tacked on a rebound goal by Gabbie Hughes 8:21 of the second period to push away to 3-1.

Midway through the third period, UMD reignited its offense, first off a goal from sophomore Ashton Bell, and 25 seconds later, from a Rogge shot that beat BSU's goaltender five-hole at 7:39.  Rogge would add the final icing with under one second remaining on the clock to extend the Bulldogs final lead to 6-1.

In all, UMD had five different scorers for six goals, and 10 different players on the scoresheet.  Jet lag didn't seem to be an issue for goaltender Maddie Rooney, who made 27 saves for the Bulldogs.  Her counterparts in the BSU net finished with a total of 22 -- Kerigan Dowhy had 17 in 47:38 of work, while Lexi Baker posted five in 12:22.

Both teams will square off in game-two tomorrow afternoon at 3:07 p.m. at AMSOIL Arena.

BULLDOG NOTES:  UMD is now 3-3-1 on the season, while the Beavers remain winless at 0-5 ... it was the largest scoring outburst by a Bulldog squad since UMD netted six against St. Cloud State for a 6-2 win in the first round of the WCHA playoffs back on Feb. 24, 2017.
