The University of Minnesota Duluth turned in a number of strong performances -- including 12 personal bests -- at the two-day South Dakota State University Indoor Classic, which wrapped up Saturday in Brookings, S.D. Some 40 schools and over 1,400 student-athletes took part in the meet.
Leading the way was junior
Danielle Kohlwey, who placed first in the 60-meter hurdles and did so by breaking her own school record with a time of 8.41. That clocking also automatically qualified her for the 2018 NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field Championship and was the best ever turned in at the Sanford-Jackrabbit Athletic Complex. Paige DuBois that came in at 3:54.54 -- another UMD record -- and good for sixth place.
DuBois finished third in the 600-meter run (1:34.77) and senior
Rachelle LeBlanc was fourth in the pole vault with a NCAA II provisional qualifying effort of 11'-8.00". Hesse placed fourth in high jump ( 5'-2.50"), freshman
Rhianna Rinke was 6th in the 1,000-meter run (
2:59.36), junior
Meg Borowski was eighth in both the 3,000-meter run (
10:07.93) and mile run (
5:02.83) and junior
Abby Moore was eighth in the 5,000-meter run (17:33.74).
A select number of Bulldogs competed in the University of Wisconsin-Superior's Yellowjacket Open on Saturday and among those was junior Igboh Bariture, who prevailed in the weight throw with a toss of 50'-03.50"
Next up for UMD is the Maverick Invitational on Feb. 16 in Mankato, Minn.
