KOHLWEY DOUBLES DOWN WITH PAIR OF RECORD-SETTING NSIC INDOOR TITLE CONQUESTS

Danielle Kohlwey not only captured her first two Northern Sun Intercollegiate Indoor Track and Field Championships titles ever on Saturday, but she did so in record-breaking style.

The University of Minnesota Duluth junior broke her own 60-meter hurdle record for the fourth time this winter, coming in at 8.29, an all-time NSIC indoor best.  She also eclipsed the Bulldog program mark in the 200-meter dash (which she established one year ago at the same meet) with a winning time time of 24.69.

UMD placed fourth out of 15 teams at the two-day conference event, which wrapped up this afternoon in Mankato, Minn. The University of Mary captured the team championship with 150 points and was followed by Minnesota State University-Mankato (123.50 pts.), Augustana University (87 pts.), UMD (81 pts.), Winona State University (70.50 pts.) and the University of Sioux Falls (44 pts.). UMD was the NSIC champion in 2014 and was fourth, third and fourth, respectively, the ensuing three years.

UMD also received  All-NSIC performances from senior Rachelle LeBlanc in the pole vault (11'-03.00"), sophomore Paige DuBois in the 600-meter run (1:35.40) and freshman Rhianna Rinke in the 1,000-meter run (2:59.26), who each took third in their respective competitions. Other UMD point producers included senior Erica Kesseh in the 60-meter dash (fourth place; 7.76) and 60-meter hurdles (fifth place; 8.79), junior Meg Borowski in the  3,000-meter run (sixth place; 10:07.47) and mile run (sixth place; 5:05.39), junior Bariture Igboh in the weight throw (fourth place; 54'08.25), sophomore Elizabeth Kyes in the 800-meter run (fifth place; 2:18.61), junior Abby Moore in the 5,000-meter run (sixth place; 17:52.68), junior Cassidy Baker in the pole vault (seventh place; 10'-09.00") and freshman Alexandra Headley (seventh place; 43'-10.50").

In addition, the distance medley relay team of Rinke, DuBois, Moore and junior Allie Stalboerger took fourth (12:22.99) while Stalboerger, Kohlwey, DuBois and junior Michaela Hesse, who earlier in the day was named the 2017-18 NSIC Elite 18 Award winner for women's indoor track & field, did likewise in the 4 x 400-meter relay.

The top three finishers in each individual event and top two relay teams earned All-NSIC honors.
