MY 9 SPORTS AND UMD RENEW BROADCAST CONTRACT

KBJR 6 / My 9 Sports has been the television home of University of Minnesota Duluth athletics for the past 10 years and the Duluth-based station will continue to carry the Bulldogs for at least another five seasons.

The new agreement calls for KBJR 6, My 9 Sports, to televise home UMD men's hockey and football games through the 2022-23 season.  It also includes expanded coverage of home women's hockey, women's volleyball, as well as men's and women's basketball games.  A number of men's hockey away games will also be televised as available.

As part of the long-term agreement, KBJR 6 continues to make significant investments in broadcast elements and quality. Beginning on March 1, My 9 Sports will be carried in HD on Charter Cable.

"KBJR and My 9 Sports is excited to be able to continue to bring a wide range of UMD sports to Northland television viewers," said KBJR Vice President and Station Manager Dave Jensch. "The UMD men's hockey program is a fan favorite and we're honored to be able to continue televising home and away games.  We're also committed to broadcasting football home games and select women's hockey, women's volleyball and basketball games. We upgraded our broadcasts to high definition in 2018 and HD is currently available to about 30% of viewers through select outlets like Charter, and Paul Bunyan Cable."

"Our partnership with UMD has allowed us to bring viewers closer than ever to the action, and it's exciting we'll have the chance to continue showcasing the stories of our local student-athletes," added KBJR-TV Sports Director Zach Schneider. "Having grown up in Duluth, UMD Athletics has always had a very special place in my heart. It's my hope our coverage on My 9 Sports will enhance the experience of every fan, young and old, as they follow the teams through their respective seasons."

During the 2017-18 athletic season, My 9 Sports will have aired 40 Bulldog men's and women's hockey, men's and women's basketball and women's volleyball events.

"UMD Athletics is proud to extend our strong partnership with My 9 Sports," said UMD Athletic Director Josh Berlo. "This ever improving partnership has brought more game, increased coverage of women's athletics and much enhanced broadcast quality to Bulldog Country."

Fans can catch this weekend's NCHC Playoff games on KBJR 6 / MY 9 Sports.  Friday and Saturday's games will air on KBJR 6 with Sunday's game if necessary airing on MY 9 Sports.
