The University of Minnesota Duluth made its 2018 outdoor track and field debut Friday at the Jim Duncan Invitational in Des Moines, Iowa, and the Bulldogs came away with three titles and one dozen top-3 individual finishes.
Saturday's entire schedule, which was to include a select number of throwing events, was canceled due to inclement weather.
Meg Borowski placed first in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 11:05.04 and was joined in the winner circle by two other juniors --
Danielle Kohlwey in the 100-meter hurdles (13.69) and
Allie Stalboerger in the 200-meter dash (25.79). Kohlwey also took second in the 400-meter hurdles, coming in at 1:01.72. In the 800-meter dash, senior All-American
Emi Trost, who missed the entire 2018 indoor season with an injury, and sophomore
Paige DuBois finished 2-3 with times of 2:14.79 and 2:16.50. Junior
Michaela Hesse was second in both the 400-meter dash (58.13) and the high jump (5'-02.25") while senior
Erica Kesseh came in third in the 100-meter dash (12.53). Kesseh, Kohlwey, Stalboerger and freshman
Natalie Peller teamed up for a runnerup effort in the 4 x 100-meter relay (48.23).
In addition, senior
Katherine Hawkinson (17'-05.50" in the long jump) posted a second-place finish and juniors
Mackenzie Sedlack (149'-08") and
Bariture Igboh (146'-10") placed 2-3 in the hammer throw.
The Bulldogs will be in St. Paul next Friday and Saturday (April 20-21) for Concordia University-St. Paul's Host Invitational.
