UMD SPREADS THE WEALTH WITH ONE DOZEN BULLDOG OPEN WINNERS

Twelve different University of Minnesota Duluth women laid claim to individual titles at the Bulldog Open, including senior Erica Kesseh (see post-meet interview below), who prevailed in a pair of sprint events.

Saturday's four-team meet marked the first home track and field appearance for a UMD team since April 17, 2012.

Kesseh clocked in at 14.90 in the 100-meter hurdles and then went on the place first in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.42. Joining her in the winner's circle were seniors Rachelle LeBlanc in the pole vault (11'-07.75") and Amber Seidenkranz in the 5,000-meter run (18:18.67), juniors Paige DuBois in the 400-meter dash (58.91), Michaela Hesse in the high jump (5'-03.00"), Bariture Igboh in the hammer throw (149'-06"), Allie Stalboerger in the 200-meter dash (25.66) and MaryPat Thune in the javelin (112'-08") and freshmen Carson Haase in the discus throw (112'-06"), Alexandra Headley in the shot put (44'-04.25"), Rhianna Rinke in the 800-meter run (2:22.49), and Natasha Dragicevich in the 400-meter hurdles (1:05.01).

In addition, three other Bulldogs -- senior Emi Trost and juniors Meg Borowski and Danielle Kohlwey -- were in Des Moines, Iowa, for the Drake Relays. Kohlwey placed third (to a pair of Big Ten Conference competitors) in the 100-meter hurdles with a school-record time of 13.50 (she held the previous mark of 13.51, set at last May's NCAA II Outdoor Track and Field Championships).  She also finished 12th in the 200-meter dash in 24.25 -- eclipsing another program record (24.53) she had owned since last April. Borowski (10:57.86 in the 3,000-meter steeplechase) and Trost (2:11.26 in the 800-meter run) both took eighth in their respective events. Trost was the Drake Relays' defending 800-meter and 1,500-meter champion.

UMD as team will next participate in Hamline University's Meet of the Unsaintly on Friday and Saturday (May 4-5) in St. Paul. In addition, two Bulldogs -- senior Alexandra Collins and Alyssa Kavajecz -- are scheduled to compete in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Outdoor Decathlon Championships this Sunday and Monday (April 29-30) in Aberdeen, S.D.
