After notching her first collegiate start on Friday, redshirt freshman
Haley Ford rewarded the University of Minnesota Duluth with her first collegiate goal but Ford's strike came too late in the comeback rally. No. 14 Bemidji State scored a pair of goals in the opening half and held off a charging Bulldog squad in the end to win the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference contest 2-1 at Chat Anderson Stadium in Bemidji, Minn.
Racheal Norton scored in the 15th minute after UMD was unable to fully clear the ball after a Beaver corner kick. Bemidji State (6-0; 3-0 NSIC) tacked on another 4:49 later as UMD couldn't corral the loose throw-in. Senior goalkeeper
Sisley Ng punched Sydney Bethke flip throw away and Tia Neuharth was fortunate enough to be in the right place to knock it in.
The Bulldogs (2-4; 1-2 NSIC) didn't shy away, out shooting the Beavers 6-4 in the second half. Ford finally booted her tally in 2:19 left in regulation with an assist from junior forward
Logan Nash. The helper from Nash was her second consecutive game with a point.
Junior midfielder
Nan Glinsek and freshman midfielder
Julia Osborne each registered a team-high two shots as the Bulldogs peppered Beaver keeper Anna Fobbe with 10 shots. Ng made a season-high five saves and moved into sixth all-time at UMD with 194 saves passing Mira Muikku (191).
UMD is 16-6-4 in 26 lifetime meetings against Bemidji State. The Bulldogs have not won since 2014 against the Beavers. UMD is 7-23-5 against opponents ranked in the top 25 dating back to 2004.
The Bulldogs finally head home for its 2018 home opener on Sept. 21 against No. 17 Minnesota State University Mankato. Friday night is the beginning of the 25th anniversary celebration weekend.
