NO. 6 UMD HOLDS OFF MIAMI TO EARN SERIES SPLIT

OXFORD, Ohio – The University of Minnesota Duluth bounced back after a disappointing start to its National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC) road series, holding off Miami for a 3-2 win on Saturday night at Steve 'Coach' Cady Arena.

No. 6 UMD (5-4-1, 2-1-1-0 NCHC) came out swinging after Friday night's defeat with Nick Swaney getting the Bulldogs on the board just 3:42 into the game, assisted by Nick Wolff and Scott Perunovich. The visitors seemed ready to take a lead to the locker room when Miami (3-6-2, 1-3-0-0 NCHC) scored on the power play with less than a second remaining in the first, as Chase Pletzke knotted things up.

Specialty teams play continued to play an important role in the second period as UMD staked a 3-1 lead with a pair of power play scores, first by Tanner Laderoute, his second of the weekend, at 5:38 of the second and then moments later as Noah Cates scored at 7:15. Scott Perunovich had a helper on each score, while Cole Koepke added the first assist to Laderoute and Jackson Cates the second for his brother. Miami pulled within one at 15:34 of the second when Rourke Russell netted a power play goal of his own. Through two periods, the Bulldogs held a 30-13 lead in shots on goal.

The two teams skated a defensive game in the third, with UMD holding Miami scoreless on its lone power play opportunity and with goalie Ryan Larkin pulled for an extra attack with just over 90 seconds remaining

NOTABLE
Hunter Shepard (5-4-1) made 16 saves in the victory for the Bulldogs, while Larkin (3-6-0) made 32 stops on the other end … Perunovich assisted on each of UMD's four goals on the weekend.
