The University of Minnesota Duluth took on Missouri Western State on Saturday evening. The Bulldogs fell to the Griffons 61-77. UMD now carries an 0-2 record to open the season, while MWSU holds a 2-0 record.

The Bulldogs finished the day shooting 38.3% (23-60) from the floor, going 7-19 on 3's and going 8-14 from the line. UMD would grab 28 rebounds. The Griffons would shot 55.9% (33-59) from the floor, dropping 4-12 on 3's and going 7-15 from the line. MWSU would total 42 rebounds.

The first quarter saw the Griffons hop out and score the first two points. The Bulldogs couldn't find any momentum to try and dig their way back into the thick of things. Junior guard
Ann Simonet would drop the first two for UMD on the day, coming from a layup. The Bulldogs would take a long stretch before scoring again, with MWSU scoring six while the UMD put up two in the next five minutes of play. The second quarter saw the Bulldogs pick up play faster, with UMD putting up 15 in the quarter. The Bulldogs would go into half time with a 14 point deficit, trailing the Griffons 20-34.

In the third, MWSU would start things off with a quick layup on UMD. The Bulldogs would keep pace with the Griffons, putting up another 15 spot, just behind MWSU's 19. UMD would battle as much as they could, trying to even things up with MWSU. The Bulldogs would put up their most potent offensive quarter in the fourth, throwing a game high 26 in the frame, unable to catch up to the Griffons who would put 24 in, finishing the game 77-61.

Sophomore forward
Brooke Olson would finish the night with a team high 25 points, grabbing seven rebounds and shooting 10-18 (55.8%) from the floor, grabbing a steal along the way. Sophomore guard
Maesyn Thiesen would drop eight in the effort, goin 2-3 on 3's, shooting 3-9 (33.3%) from the floor and grabbing three rebounds, stealing one and assisting on nine. Simonet would finish with 11 on the day, going 4-10 (40%) from the floor and draining one 3-pointer with five rebounds, grabbing a steal along the way.

The Bulldogs take on No. 1 Drury State on Monday at 5 PM in Springfield, Mo.
