BALTS NAMED TO COSIDA ACADEMIC ALL-AMERICAN SECOND TEAM

The University of Minnesota Duluth had one player named to the College Sports Information Directors of America Academic All-America team. Senior setter Emily Balts was honored with a second team nomination.
 
To be eligible for Academic All-America® consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director.
 
Balts currently has a 3.92 grade point average while majoring in chemical engineering at UMD. With this nomination, it'll be the second time in a row that she has made the Academic All-America Second team. The Bulldogs have now had three years in a row that players have been honored to the Academic All-America team, with graduate Mackenzie Morgen nabbing a spot on the third team in 2017. She finished the season with a 12.19 assists per set average, second in the nation across all divisions. She ended her career with 5,559 assists, which moved her up one spot into fourth all time in Bulldogs volleyball history. Balts led the team to a 14.93 kills per set average, which is tops in DII and second across all divisions. She is the leader in career assists as well as assists per set across all divisions, finishing with a 12.22 average.
