The University of Minnesota Duluth kick started its 2019-20 track and field season Saturday by finishing first in 11 different events at the College of St. Scholastica's The Opener.
Juniors
Austin Have and
Noah Torvik were the lone Bulldogs to capture two titles, as Have took first in the 400-meter dash (52.33) and Torvik did likewise in the 800-meter run (2:00.42) before the two teamed with freshman
Jordan Gruenes and junior
Andrew Arthur on the winning 4 x 400-meter relay unit (3:36.19). Others placing first at the Burns Wellness Commons were freshman
Jack Larson in the mile run (4:43.79), junior
Cole Lebourgeois in the 5,000-meter run (15:33.33), sophomore
Ben Palmquist in the 60-meter hurdles (8.55), juniorÂ
Ian O'Connor in the high jump (6'-04.75"), senior
Dan Clark in the pole vault (13'-09.25"), senior
Jake Carlson in long jump (21'.00.50"), sophomore
Avery Hunt in the triple jump (40'-20.50") and sophomore
Zach Skelton in the weight throw (a NCAA II provisional qualifying mark of 58'-04.50").
Both Palmquist, O'Connor and Clark all won their respective events for a second year in a row.Â
UMD is now off until Jan. 18 when it will compete in Twin Ports Open in Superior, Wis.
