Quinn Olson, who has spent the past two seasons starring with the Alberta Junior Hockey League's Okotoks Oilers, has signed a National Letter of Intent to attend and play hockey for the University of Minnesota Duluth in 2019-20.
Olson, a 5-11, 170-pound forward from Calgary, Alberta, joins forwards Luke Loheit (Penticton Vees of the British Columbia Hockey League) and Devlin McCabe (Sioux City Musketeers of the United States Hockey League) and goaltender Zach Stejskal (Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Knights of the North American Hockey League) as UMD's incoming freshmen class.
Olson is currently tied for 10th (and ranks second among Oilers) in scoring with 61 points on 20 goals and 41 assists -- the fifth highest total in the league -- in 49 outings. This past January, he competed in the Canadian Junior Hockey League Prospect Game, featuring 40 of the top National Hockey League draft-eligible players from across the entire 10-league, 133-team CJHL. As an Okotoks rookie, Olson collected 14 goals and and 39 assists in 59 regular season outings to place fifth on the Oiler scoring charts -- 16 points behind team leader
Tanner Laderoute, who is now a UMD freshman right winger.
