Box Score Wayne State College used a walk-off walk in the bottom of the ninth inning to defeat the University of Minnesota Duluth 4-3 Sunday afternoon in the final game of a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference weekend series in Wayne, Neb

The Bulldogs (4-12 overall and 2-6 in the NSIC) struck first on senior designated hitter Tyler Wojciechowski's third-inning two-run single to left field, that brought home both junior right fielder Drew Stewart and sophomore center fielder Henry George. Wojciechowski, who drove in all three Bulldog runs and went 3-4 on the afternoon, would strike again in the top of the fifth inning on a one-out single to right field. Both the Bulldogs scored (the third and fifth innings), the Wildcats (14-7 overall; 5-3) would answer in their next at bats and and knot the score. Rookie Ben Shepard, in his first career start for the Bulldogs, threw 4.1 innings and gave up three runs on four hits while striking out one and walking four. Junior pitcher Jaylen Hakes provided the Bulldogs with a solid 2.1 innings of relief work, fanning two and surrendering two its. Sophomore Sean Flaherty (0-1) was tagged with the loss for UMD as he toed the rubber for the final 1.2 innings of the day.

George and Brown each had a pair of hits for the Bulldogs, who outhit the Wildcats, 9-7.

UMD is scheduled to make its 2019 home debut this Saturday (March 30) with a pair of NSIC matchups against Concordia University-St.Paul.
