UMDS FALLS TO MARY IN NSIC TOURNAMENT QUARTERFINALS
The University of Minnesota Duluth had its 2019 season come to a close in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference quarterfinals as the fifth-seeded University of Mary defeated the fourth-seeded Bulldogs 4-0 Saturday night at the Lifetime Fitness in Minnetonka, Minn.
The Bulldogs, who made their third straight appearance in the postseason tournament, finished the year 11-5 and had the most wins since 2007.
Mary grabbed the doubles point as the Marauders defeated the No. 1 doubles team of junior
Megan Anderson and junior
Elsa Erickson and the No. 2 unit of sophomore
Isabel Thiner and freshman
Ally Tiedemann by identical 6-2 scores. Mary completed the sweep securing wins in the No.1, No. 2 and No. 4 single matches. The Bulldogs were without its No. 2 doubles and No. 3 singles player sophomore
Natalie Cahill, who was out with an injury.
Anderson handled the team's No. 1 singles responsibility all season after being elevated from the No. 2 position last season. Freshman
Sophie Lynch (No. 3) was the lone Bulldog to win the first set in a singles contest and was fighting to secure UMD a point in the second set. The No. 6 singles clash with freshman
Sarah Will, who saw her first singles action in over two month, was heading to a tie-breaker when the match was called.
Cahill, despite missing today, finished with a 12-2 singles record. Thiner and Tiedemann each collected 10 singles wins as well. Cahill and Lynch were a team-leading 10-3 in doubles action.
