Sophomore forward
Brooke Olson joined an elite group of University of Minnesota Duluth women's basketball players on Monday. She was named one of 10 All-Americans by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA). Olson is just the fifth Bulldog to attain All-America status since 1988, joining former players Jheri Booker, Lindsey Dietz, Dina Kangas and Stacy Nelson.
Prior to obtaining the national recognition, Olson nabbed the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Player of the Year honor as well as the Division II Conference Commissioner's Association Player of the Year in the Central Region. She was able to snag both awards by dropping in 17.2 points a night (fourth in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference, 70th in DII) in 27.6 minutes, the only player on the Bulldogs to snag double digits on the team. On top of leading the team in scoring, she has been able to lead the way in terms of boards as well, grabbing 6.4 per game (15th in the NSIC). She's played in 883 minutes over the season and has shot 51.9% (second in the NSIC, 62nd in DII) on the year. Olson has shot 42.2% from beyond the arc and made 73.9% of free throws. She's dished 54 assists on the year and stolen 24 balls with six blocks to go along with it.
Her remarkable season led the Bulldogs to a NSIC Regular Season Championship. UMD finished the year 26-6 as runner up of the NSIC Sanford Health Tournament. It would go undefeated at home. The Bulldogs gained the No. 2 seeding in the NCAA Central Region Tournament, but the tournament was canceled due to the COVID-19 outbreak.
