University of Minnesota Duluth athletic director,
Josh Berlo, has been appointed to a four-year term on the NCAA Division I Women's Ice Hockey Committee.
"I am very honored to have been appointed to the NCAA Women's Ice Hockey Committee and look forward to collaborating with this impressive group of member administrators and coaches in support of the game of women's hockey," said Berlo.
Berlo, will begin his tenure on September 1st and will serve on a committee that oversees, among other things, the selection, seeding and bracketing for the annual NCAA Women's Ice Hockey Championship.
"Josh's leadership and commitment to our women's athletic programs has been instrumental to the success of our student-athletes and Bulldog athletics," said UMD Chancellor Lendley Black. "I am confident that Josh's expertise will be beneficial to the NCAA Division I Women's Ice Hockey Committee and we are proud to have him represent UMD."
After taking over as the director of athletics at UMD in April of 2013, Berlo oversees all UMD head coaches, staff and administrative personnel. He is responsible for the student-athlete experience, developing and implementing a strategic plan, managing the departmental budget, directing the use of the University's athletic facilities, and leading fundraising and marketing efforts for the 16-sport program. These objectives are all geared to the Bulldog mission of excellence in the classroom, in competition and in the community while supporting UMD's overall strategic plan.
"Thank you to
Abbey Strong (UMD Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance & Camps) for serving on the committee for the past several years. Abbey's passion for women's hockey has made a significant impact on our game, and we appreciate all of her time and effort in her role as a committee member," said UMD women's hockey head coach
Maura Crowell. "We are fortunate to have Josh joining the NCAA women's hockey committee through 2024. Josh has moved women's hockey forward in many ways within UMD and the WCHA, and I'm happy to have him serving on this very important national committee. I am confident that he will help our sport advance and grow in his new role."
