University of Minnesota Duluth men's hockey alum Mike Cortes passed away earlier this week at the age of 57.
A native of Duluth, Minn., Cortes (goaltender) appeared in 31 games for the Bulldogs from 1985-88. During his freshman year in 1985, Cortes competed in eighteen games for UMD, while posting an .885 save percentage. During that season, the Bulldogs tallied an overall record of 26-13-3. Prior to his career at Minnesota Duluth, Cortes played two seasons with the Dubuque Fighting Saints of the United States Hockey League (USHL).
