BULLDOGS INK FOUR IN 2022 RECRUITING CLASS

The University of Minnesota Duluth women's hockey coaching staff announced its 2022 recruiting class Tuesday, with four signees set to join the Bulldogs next season. Those future Bulldogs include Danielle Brunette (Chisago City, Minn.), Danielle Burgen (Lindstrom, Minn.), Tova Henderson (Richmond, B. C.) and Hailey MacLeod (Abbotsford, B.C.).

"We are proud to announce our Bulldog recruiting class of 2022," said UMD head coach Maura Crowell.  " We traditionally attract top talent from Minnesota and western Canada and this year is no exception.  Dani Burgen is a two-time USA U18 national team player, Tova Henderson and Hailey MacLeod have been named to Team Canada's Top 40 list as Canada gets closer to naming its U18 roster, and Dani Brunette just reached 100 career points in the MSHSL. This is a successful group of young women that will help our program chase its next national championship."

A 5-8 forward, Brunette was a two-time selection to USA Hockey National Development Camps in both 2019 and 2021 and plays for Chisago Lakes High School. A soon-to-be four-year letterwinner in hockey, Brunette earned all-state honorable mention and Mississippi 8 All-Conference nods as a junior.  Prior to that, the 2021-22 captain was named a 2019-20 forward MVP and all-conference selection.  Brunette was named a 2018-19 Rookie of the Year, Make a Difference Player of the Year and picked up all-conference honorable mention as a freshman.  Over four years of high school hockey between Blaine High School and Chisago Lakes, Brunette has racked up 109 career points so far on 47 goals and 62 assists.

Burgen will come to UMD with plenty of international experience under her belt, including as a member of the 2020 IIHF U18 Women's World Championship gold medal squad for Team USA.  In addition to attending the USA Hockey Select Camp in 2019 and 2021, Burgen also attended USA Hockey National Development Camps in both 2019 and 2021, and participated in USA U18 Festival in 2019, scoring three goals and adding an assist over three games. A six-year high school letter winner and 2021-22 team captain, Burgen was an All-State selection as a junior and sophomore, and is a three-time Mississippi 8 All-Conference member. The all-time freshman point record holder at Chisholm Lakes High School (19g, 29a for 57 points), she was also 2017-18 all-conference honorable mention selection as an eighth-grader and has already registered a whopping 235 career points -- including 103 goals -- over her high school career.

Richmond, B.C. native Henderson, a 5-8 defenseman, has been invited to Team Canada's U18 selection camp to compete for a roster spot on the 2022 IIHF U18 Women's World Championship. Henderson previously hit the ice in Canada National Women's Under-18 Team Summer Development Camp in Calgary and skated in the Canada U18 Festival in 2021. Henderson has had an outstanding career at the Delta Hockey Academy of the CSSHL for the past four years, rolling up 45 points from the blueline over that time.  A 2021-22 captain, and member of the 2021 Western Regional Women's U18 gold medal winning team with Team BC, Henderson was also nominated for the CSSHL's Top Defender in 2020.

MacLeod has also been invited to the Team Canada's U18 selection camp to compete for a roster spot on the 2022 IIHF U18 Women's World Championship, one of four goaltenders on the roster.  MacLeod previously attended both the Hockey Canada National Women's Under-18 Team Summer Development Camp in Calgary and the BC Hockey U18 Female Program of Excellence Provincial Camp in July and August. Currently playing with the Delta Hockey Academy, MacLeod manned the pipes for gold medal winning Team BC in the 2021 Western Regional Women's U18 Championship and attends North Delta Secondary School.
