FIVE-HOLE: UMD will be missing five players this weekend -- Eve Gascon (G, Sr.), Caitlin Kraemer (F, Jr. are with Canada playing the U.S. ahead of Worlds. Paulina Salonen (F, Fr.) and Tuuli Tallinen (D, Fr.) are at Finland Camp trying to make the world team. And Ida Karlsson (D, Sr.) is with Sweden.
Without them, UMD is left with 10 forwards, five defensemen -- just 15 total skaters -- and two goalies. This will be the fewest available players for a UMD game program possibly ever in program history.
KRAEMER'S ON THE CANADIAN NATIONAL TEAM BOARD: If you missed it, junior Caitlin Kraemer scored her first senior Canadian National Team goal Wednesday night against the U.S. in a pre-tournament game. Kraemer left the Canada National Women's Under-18 Team as its all-time leading scorer when she arrive at UMD. The Waterloo, Ontario native compiled 37 goals in 32 games played for a total of 53 points as a U-18 national team member
NO EASY GOALS: UMD is the only team in the NCAA allowing under a goal a game so far this season. The Bulldogs are sitting at 0.87 goals allowed a game, and also on an NCAA-most five shutouts. UMD also owns the highest saves percentage as a team (.964). Eve Gascon owns the NCAA's best GAA (0.40), saves percentage (.982), second most wins (5) and most shutouts (4).
PENALTY KILLERS: UMD is owns the nation's third-best penalty kill among teams that have skated in three or more games with a 95% kill rate. UMD has killed off 19-of-20 penalties, and has been perfect in 11-straight penalty kills over their last five games.
SHUT IT DOWN: The Bulldogs have not allowed now in three-consecutive games. UMD has played 180-straight minutes without allowing a goal, and it spans over two Bulldog goaltendes, with rookie Marilou Grenier earning a shutout back on Oct. 10 against St. Thomas, and Eve Gascon picking up back-to-back shutouts against BSU back on Oct. 16-16.
UMD currently leads the NCAA with five team shutouts (four from Eve Gascon and one from Marilou Grenier).
LEADING THE WAY: Both Eve Gascon and Caitlin Kraemer are sitting at the top or near the top of the NCAA in a number of catergories.Â
Gascon has the lowest GAA (0.39), highest winning percentage (1.00), leads the nation in shutouts (4), and ranks second with a 0.982 saves percentage.
Kraemer is tied for second in game-winning goals (2), and ranks fourth in game-winning goals (3). Kraemer has played fewer games than the four players in front of her due to national team commitments, but still ranks fourth in faceoff wins with 97. In all, Kraemer is 97-56 in six games, a 63.3 win percentage.
THE SERIES: UMD enters the weekend with Minnesota owning a two-game winning streak against the Gophers after stunning Minnesota at Ridder Arena in the final regular season series by scores of 3-2 and 2-1, both overtime gams with game-winners scored by Tova Henderson.
