UMD SIGNS FOOTBALL HEAD COACH WIESE TO CONTRACT EXTENSION

The University of Minnesota Duluth and head football coach Curt Wiese have agreed to a three-year contract extension that will keep him on the Bulldog sidelines through the 2024-25 season.

"I am thankful to work alongside a talented staff that has helped recruit a group of student-athletes that make us proud on and off of the field," said head football coach Curt Wiese. "Our administration continues to support our mission of chasing championships and graduating quality young men. Thanks to Josh Berlo (UMD Athletic Director), UMD Chancellor Lendley Black, our staff, and UMD football student-athletes. I am thrilled that my family will remain in Bulldog Country."

He's also helped produce 28 different All-Americans and 50 All-NSIC first team selections, as well as seeing Bulldog student-athletes achieve NSIC All-Academic status 136 times. In 2013 he was selected the Liberty Mutual Coach of the Year Award winner for Division II, a prestigious honor recognizing coaches for their responsibility, integrity, sportsmanship and excellence, on and off the field. Three years later, Wiese counted himself among the 10 head football coaches nationwide who were finalists for a spot on the Allstate Insurance and American Football Coaches Association Good Works Team.

"Curt Wiese is an exceptional leader of Bulldog football as they chase championships competitively and academically," said UMD Athletic Director Josh Berlo.  "He has built one of the best staffs in college football and consistently recruits impressive young men to the program. Curt is a great role model for the student-athletes on his team and we could not be happier to have him to continue to lead this nationally-renowned program.  Curt and his family are an asset to Bulldog athletics, UMD and the community."
