SODERBERG CLAIMS WCHA 2020-21 GOALTENDING TITLE FOR UMD

No Western Collegiate Hockey Assocation goaltender was better between the pipes over the regular season than University of Minnesota Duluth's Emma Soderberg, and after the dust settled on the regular season Saturday, Soderberg's statistics cemented it.

The junior netminder -- already in the running for the National Goaltender of the Year -- was crowned the statistically driven WCHA 2020-21 Goaltending Champion Sunday.  The title was fitting for Soderberg, who looked every bit the part this past weekend against the No. 1 University of Wisconsin. making 71 saves to push her regular season total to 404. The Jarved, Sweden native finished off the WCHA regular season leading the league with both a 1.34 GAA and .951 saves percentage, and tied with the most shutouts with five.  Soderberg also the had second most wins in the league (11), which also ranked her fifth in the country. (Full disclaimer, two players ahead of her played four more games, while one played one more).

Soderberg and the No. 7/6 Bulldogs will face No. 3 Ohio State as the second seed in the upcoming WCHA Final Face-Off at Ridder Arena in Minneapolis, Minn. Saturday.  The puck is set to drop on the second semi-final game at 5:07 p.m.
