BELL EARNS FINAL WCHA DEFENSEMAN OF THE MONTH HONOR

The most decorated defenseman in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association this seaason picked up one final honor league honor Tuesday.

University of Minnesota Duluth senior defensman Ashton Bell was named the WCHA's Defenseman of the Month for March after the Deloraine, Manitoba native helped lead the Bulldogs back into their first NCAA Frozen Four in more than a decade.  Bell was one of only two blueliners who scored a goal, and the only one that scored a game-winner.  Bell's dramatic goal in overtime against Colgate propelled UMD to a 1-0 win in the NCAA Quarterfinals, the program's first win in the NCAA Tournament since 2010.  With a total of two points in March (1g, 1a), Bell also led the league with 12 blocks and was selected to the 2021 NCAA Frozen Four All-Tournament Team.

While this marks Bell's first WCHA monthly honor, the defenseman has collected almost every other award possible this season.  Bell was named a AHCA Second Team All-American, and was selected the WCHA's Defenseman of the Year.  A All-WCHA First Team member, Bell was twice named the WCHA's Defenseman of the Week and also earned her third WCHA Scholar Athlete accolade.

Bell finished the season with 14 points on a defenseman league-high four goals and 10 assists in 19 games.  Bell ranked second in scoring among all WCHA blueliners and led the league with a 0.21 goals per game average, as well as a plus/minus rating of +19.
