The University of Minnesota Duluth softball program closed out their spring trip to Kansas and Missouri today with a doubleheader versus Northwest Missouri State in St. Joseph, MO today. The Bulldogs fought hard for two games, but were ultimately unable to best the Griffons. The Bulldogs dropped the first game 10-1 and the second game 4-0.
Game 1:
Game 1 would see the Griffons get on the board first, scoring off a wild pitch in the bottom of the first inning. They would add two more runs in the second inning to bring the score to 3-0 in favor of Missouri Western.
The Bulldogs would get on the scoresheet in the third inning, with an RBI double from Lauren Oberle that saw Taylor Koehnen get the lone run for the Bulldogs in the first game. A string of two good innings from Missouri Western would push the final score to 10-1 in five innings.
Game 2:
The second game between the Bulldogs and the Griffons would see both teams held scoreless until the fourth inning, when Western Missouri would get one run on the board thanks to an RBI single up the middle. The Griffons would go ahead and score three more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to bring the score to 4-0, which would remain through the end of the game.
This would conclude the Bulldogs' spring trip. The team will next take the field on March 17th versus the University of Mary. The Bulldogs will host Wayne State for their home opener on April 2nd.
