University of Minnesota Duluth women's hockey senior defenseman
Ashton Bell has been named one of 47 players by Hockey Canada invited to attend the BFL National Women's Team Selection Camp, presented by Sobeys, that will run April 14-22 in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
The selection camp is the final opportunity the Team Canada coaching staff will use to evaluate players in preparation for the 2021 IIHF Women's World Championship, scheduled to be hosted by Haliffax and Truro, Nova Scotia May 6-16.
Bell, coming off the most decorated season of her career as a Bulldog, will join former UMD defenseman Jocelyne Larocque and Brigette Lacquette, both long-time Canadian National Team stalwarts.
Named both a 2020-21 USCHO First Team All-American and a 2020-21 CCM/AHCA Second Team All-American, Bell finished the season the seventh-highest scoring defenseman in the nation and second highest in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association with 14 points on four goals and 10 assists. The offensive blueliner was named the WCHA's Defenseman of the Year, as well as an All-WCHA First Team selection, and also turned in a plus/minus rating of +19 over the season.
Canada will begin its quest for a gold medal when it opens the 2021 IIHF Women's World Championship against Finland on May 6 at 6:30 p.m. ET/3:30 p.m. PT.
