WOMEN'S BASKETBALL DROPS ROAD BATTLE TO HUSKIES

St. Cloud, Minn. – The Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs traveled to face off against conference rival St. Cloud State Huskies. The Bulldogs found themselves in a battle but were not able to close out the Huskies as St. Cloud went on to win 71-67.
 
 The first quarter was a high scoring quarter as both offenses were clicking early. The Bulldogs were able to jump out to an early 10-6 lead thanks to an Ann Simonet three-pointer. The Huskies battled back however as they managed to go on a 13-4 run to end the quarter and to take a 19-14 lead at the end of the first quarter. The second quarter started by both teams battling and trading baskets. The Huskies led for the entire quarter as the Bulldogs were not able to cut into their lead until late in the quarter. The Bulldogs were able to score on back-to-back possessions to end the half to get the game to within one point at a 32-31 deficit going into halftime. The Bulldogs shot 12-28 (42.86%) from the field and 2-7 from three-point range in the first half. They also shot 5-6 from the foul line. The Huskies shot 12-26 from the field and 1-7 from three-point range in the first half. They also shot a perfect 7-7 from the foul line.
 
In the third quarter, the Bulldogs offense started out hot as they were able to cut into the Huskies lead. Thanks to a trio of three pointers, the Bulldogs were able to take a 44-40 lead with 4:55 left in the quarter. From there, both teams traded baskets as neither team could take a lead. Thanks to a three pointer from Ann Simonet, the Bulldogs went into the fourth quarter with a 51-48 lead. In the fourth quarter, teams once again traded baskets to begin the quarter. After a pair of free throws for the Huskies, the game was tied 59-59 with 3:32 left in the game. From there, the Bulldogs offense struggled as the Huskies took advantage and took a 68-63 lead with 1:07 left in the game. The Bulldogs managed to get it to within one point with :27 seconds left but proved to be too little too late as the Huskies held on to win the game 71-67.
 
The Bulldogs were led by Brooke Olson who had 20 points on the night while Ann Simonet added 11 points on the night. Olson also led the team with 6 rebounds on the night while Maesyn Thiesen and Payton Kahl led the team with 3 assists each. Thiesen and Kahl also added 2 steals each. Overall the Bulldogs shot 25-47 (53.2%) from the field and shot 7-15 (46.7%) from three-point range. They also shot 10-13 (76.9%) from the foul line.
 
The Huskies were led by Nikki Kilboten who had 21 points on the night. Kilboten also led the team with 9 rebounds. Brehna Evans led the team with 7 assists on the night. Overall, the Huskies shot 27-57 (47.4%) from the field and 2-12 (16.7%) from three-point range. They also shot 15-17 from the foul line.
