Minnesota Duluth men's hockey captain
Noah Cates has been selected to Team USA for the 2022 Winter Olympic Games in Beijing, China, the team announced on Thursday afternoon.
With the selection, Cates becomes the ninth American, and 14th UMD men's hockey player to represent their country in the Olympics. He'll be the first men's hockey player since Justin Faulk in 2014 to suit up for Team USA.
It'll be the second time that the Stillwater, Minn. native, will have represented team USA. Back in 2019, Cates appeared in seven games, while posting a goal and two assists with the U.S.A World Junior Team.
In twenty games with the Bulldogs this season, Cates has tallied six goals and eight assists for a team-leading 14 points. During his career in Duluth, Cates has dressed in a total of 122 games, while noting 34 goals and 55 assists for 89 points.
The Olympic games are set to begin on Wednesday, Feb. 2 in Beijing.
